Statement of Commitment to Children's Safety & Wellbeing

Laurel Place Inc. believes that all children and young people have the right to be safe and free from harm, at all times and that they are given every opportunity to thrive in every aspect of their life. Laurel Place is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people and believe that children and young people are best nurtured, supported and cared for by their own families and communities. The exception to this is only when the child or young person’s safety and protection cannot be guaranteed within the family and/or community.

When engaging children, young people and their families, Laurel Place supports a child focussed, trauma-informed, culturally safe, family systems and attachment-based approach that focuses on the individual needs and wellbeing of children and young people. Laurel Place Inc. recognises the impacts of inter-generational trauma on children and young people and understands that this can place children and young people at higher risk of experiencing harm themselves.

Laurel Place Inc. maintains an ethical and moral responsibility to promote the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people, supporting the promotion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Laurel Place Inc. has a commitment to cultural safety, and the wellbeing of all First Nations’ (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island) children and young people who come into contact with our services. Laurel Place Inc. acknowledges the over representation of First Nations’ (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island) children and young people in the child protection system and acknowledges the impacts of colonisation including the dispossession of land and past polices of forcible child removals, structural disadvantage and systemic.
